Elixir Gallery, Queen Elizabeth

Elixir Gallery was launched at Queen Elizabeth in 2008 to make a positive contribution to the hospital environment by providing a changing exhibition programme for patients, visitors and staff. A voluntary Curate Team of staff make decisions on the programme, in their own time, supported by the Trust’s Arts Manager.

The Gallery provides an opportunity for professional and semi-professional artists with a local connection, schools, arts and community organisations to show their work to enhance the hospital. Verve Arts is sometimes able to offer a very small contribution of donated charitable funds (not NHS money) towards the expense of mounting an exhibition. If you are interested in applying please download Elixir Gallery Policy & Guidelines 2011 and read these carefully before sending information.

'GREEN CHAIN CAPTURED 2012' - a photographic exhibition at Elixir Gallery

In partnership with the Green Chain, Verve Arts invited submissions of photographs taken along the Green Chain route which runs through the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Thirty selected photographs were chosen from 155 entries for this summer's exhibition. As this year's entries were of a very high standard, we have decided to select another thirty photographs from this year's entries for another exhibition in 2013 (dates to be announced).

'Green Chain Captured 2012' Exhibition dates: 24th May to 2nd September 2012.

Elixir Gallery is situated near the West Entrance inside Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the exhibition is always open 7 days a week. When the West Entrance is closed at 10pm it is still possible to access the Gallery through the main entrance.

The Gallery is accessible to people using wheelchairs.

Buses 291, 161, 469, 486, 178 stop at the West Entrance Queen Elizabeth Hospital, or else you can walk along the Green Chain which passes close by. Visitors are encouraged to walk or use public transport as hospital parking is a priority for patients and staff.

The exhibition aims to:

  • Improve awareness of links between the Green Chain route which runs through the borough of Greenwich, and other local facilities including leisure amenities, parks, schools, colleges, hospitals and health centres, train stations and bus routes, etc.
  • Promote the use of the Green Chain routes as a means of travel by foot, to reduce car use in the borough and to access public transport services
  • Encourage photography for relaxation and walking as a healthy lifestyle choice
  • Encourage a sense of local pride and ownership of the Green Chain route and its amenities
  • Promote ‘greener’ attitudes, awareness and care of the local environment; responsibility for reporting fly-tipping, graffiti, vandalism, damage or path obstructions;
  • Encourage volunteering and joining ‘Friends’ groups.

We would like to thank all those individuals and families who took part and the Green Chain for making this exhibition possible. Whether your photograph has been selected or not, you may also be able to submit photographs to the Green Chain website – put flickr Green Chain Walk into your search engine to find out what to do.
