The Children's Ward provides a warm and welcoming environment for children requiring a variety of treatments and lengths of stay.
The ward holds around 20 beds for children with medical conditions (e.g. diabetes or epilepsy), some orthopaedic conditions, and minor surgery such as dentistry. Children aged 16 years and above are given the option to go to an adult ward. Of the 20 beds some are self-contained cubicles with en-suite facilities and each bed has a television point. Parents are welcome to stay and there are folding beds to put by their child's bed. The ward has a big playroom, separate parents sitting room, school room with a teacher during the week, a teenagers room and the "Snoozlem Room" a special place for children to relax and play.
Alongside the ward's staff are two health visitors to ensure information from A&E or maternity about a child is passed on to the relevant community service and school. A Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children is also in place to advise on safeguarding children and child protection procedures.
