Birthing Centre Success
23-Feb-2011
Midwives at South London Healthcare's brand new Oasis Birthing Centre, at the Princess Royal Farnborough, have been overwhelmed by the number of mums who have already chosen to give birth there. With the average number of births in a similar unit being around 350 for a year, they have topped 100 in the first two months!
Oasis baby number 100 was Reggie Miller, born to Louis and Fay on Thursday 27 January 2010 – seven weeks after the unit opened. Not surprisingly, Reggie (pictured) received a very special welcome by midwives Frances Dutton, Julie Holton and Alison Starling.
Dad, Louis says "When we arrived, the midwives and staff were really lovely and made us feel safe and welcome. Our midwife, Julie, delivered Reggie's cousin a year ago, so we were very happy. We couldn't have asked for more from the midwives and staff. They were wonderful and very reassuring."
Reggie's grandmother Kate says “It has been fantastic. They couldn't do enough for us. We will always remember that day."
Equipped and furnished to the highest standards, the five state-of-the-art birthing rooms, two with pools, provide a calm and relaxed home-from-home environment for mums who choose a more natural birthing option – most ideal for those who have experienced normal pregnancy and are in normal labour.
Donna Ockenden, Chief Midwife for the Trust says "Congratulations Fay and Louis and thank you for being our 100th birth! As Chief Midwife I'm delighted at the early success of the Oasis Birthing Centre and am especially pleased that local women now have the extra choice that I know they have wanted for some time."
