Jo Johnson joins volunteers at Orpington
25-Jul-2012
Jo Johnson MP worked as a volunteer serving teas at the League of Friends shop at Orpington Hospital last Thursday. Staff, patients and volunteers were delighted to meet him. He was also keen to go with the volunteers around the wards and help with the supplies trolley chatting with patients along the way.
Friends volunteer Heather Hicks said 'We are all completely delighted by Jo's visit today. He showed so much interest."
Jo Johnson MP says, "The Friends of Orpington Hospital are a vital link between the NHS and the community it serves. I saw for myself how much staff and patients value the hard work of the volunteers, especially those in the tea room and shop. They are doing a magnificent job and are helping to boost morale at a time of uncertainty for the Hospital."
Carl Shoben, Director of Communications at South London Healthcare NHS Trust and speaking for the Trust, said that whatever the future, it is vital that volunteers from the hospital continue to play that vital link and reassurance for patients.
